On September 20, 2024, the first in-person meeting of the TU Darmstadt VR Community took place at the Institute of Ergonomics (IAD), in collaboration with Schenker Technologies GmbH. The “VR Demo Day” brought together researchers and educators who utilize Virtual Reality (VR) and Extended Reality (XR) in various university projects.
Nina Theobald, a member of the Human-Machine Interaction & Mobility research group, opened the meeting with a presentation on ongoing and completed research projects that explore the interaction between pedestrians and automated vehicles using virtual reality.
Following this, Anastasia Serkin and Mauritz Segger from Schenker Technologies GmbH showcased the latest developments in VR and XR hardware, software, and accessories. Participants had the opportunity to test the devices on-site and received expert advice on the specific requirements of their VR and XR projects.
The aim of the VR Community is to connect the TU Darmstadt institutes that use VR and XR in research and teaching. Regular exchanges are intended to generate new impulses for various application areas and provide a platform for sharing experiences and knowledge.
A special thanks goes to Schenker Technologies GmbH for their valuable support and hands-on insights into the latest VR and XR technologies, which significantly enriched the meeting!
