Campus FreeCity presents the current state of research and development of the CityBots at the DEKRA Lausitzring

On December 13 and 14, 2023, the 4th consortium meeting of the Campus FreeCity project funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) took place at the DEKRA Lausitzring in Klettwitz (Dresden). During the 4th consortium meeting, the current status of the various work packages for the development of a networked fleet of modular CityBot robotic vehicles was presented and meta-topics such as the planning of the real-world laboratory for testing the CityBot ecosystem at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt am Main, which will start in 2024, were discussed. The two CityBots developed by project partner EDAG Engineering GmbH were also at the Lausitzring to present the research and development results already implemented on the vehicles hands-on.

The IAD’s Human-Machine Interaction & Mobility research group presented the current status of the visual human-machine interfaces of the CityBots, such as the avatar display, the LED matrix and the internal people mover display for interaction between user groups such as pedestrians, passengers, working persons and the CityBots. On the other hand, an insight was given into the dashboard for the dispatcher in the operation center, who is responsible for fleet and route management and serves as a contact person for passengers.

The Campus FreeCity project, funded by BMDV, aims to research solutions to the challenges of urban transport on a laboratory scale through the use of CityBot vehicles developed by project partner EDAG Engineering GmbH. Other partners include House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM) GmbH, EintrachtTech GmbH, T-Systems International GmbH, COMPREDICT GmbH, DEKRA Automobil GmbH, University of Applied Sciences Fulda, Technical University of Darmstadt as well as FES, Mainova and DPD (associated).
