19th meeting of the automotive ergonomics working group (AutoErg)

2024/09/30

Representatives from practice, research and employers' liability insurance associations discussed current challenges in production ergonomics.

On September 17, 2024, 30 representatives from the field, mainly from the automotive and supplier industry, research and employers' liability insurance associations, met for the 19th meeting of the automotive-specific ergonomics working group (AutoErg). The aim of the annual event organized by the Institute of Ergonomics (IAD) in Darmstadt is to jointly discuss current challenges in the field of ergonomics and to generate impetus for possible solutions that can be used to develop solutions in the long term.

The event was hosted by Porsche AG at the Zuffenhausen plant. The event also provided an insight into the production of the Porsche 911 as a practical example.

Three keynote speeches formed the core of the event:

  • Calculability of ergonomics – effort vs. benefit by Dr. Steffen Rast, German MTM Society
  • Ability-based deployment of employees with disabilities by Bastian Kaiser, Porsche AG
  • Design and evaluation of job rotation by Josefine Emmel, Institute of Ergonomics

Possible solutions and the need for further research were discussed. Further discussions are planned for the AutoErg semi-annual meeting in the first quarter of 2025.
