New open access handbook on the introduction of automated public transport for the mobility transition

2023/12/04

The IAD is involved in the publication of a practice-orientated handbook on the background and practical implementation of automated public transport in smaller towns and rural regions.

The handbook is aimed specifically at decision-makers, local authority administrations and transport companies to provide them with a comprehensive overview of the implementation of automated public transport for the mobility transition.

Written by renowned experts from science and practice, the handbook offers an in-depth insight into various aspects of automated driving and highlights the opportunities and risks for mobility and society. Particular attention is paid to the often neglected rural regions and underserved urban areas.

Our contribution to the handbook is explicitly dedicated to the acceptance and usability of automated public transport and includes

  • The aspects of the attractiveness of automated public transport and its acceptance by the population
  • Usability, taking into account specific user groups and their requirements for automated public transport.
  • Consideration of the communication and interaction of automated public transport with other road users to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

The aim of the handbook is to provide a practical guide for the successful implementation of pilot projects for automated public transport. It emphasises the prominent role of public transport as a collective means of transport and aims to accelerate the mobility transition.
